One Family's attempt to live simply, while simply following. Jesus that is!

On the Seventh Day He Rested

I can’t believe that at this time tomorrow I will be stepping back into the state of Kentucky. I will have my two precious children waiting on me and my beautiful wife welcoming me home. Don’t get me wrong, I wish that moment was now, but I also can’t help but wish I was welcoming them into Honduras instead. I look forward to the day that my entire family gets to experience a week like this. I want my children to have missional mindset and to see it as vital part of our lives. This week we have had a married couple, a father-son combo, and a mother-daughter pair on the trip. It has been amazing to watch as a father served his son communion, a mother saw her 11 year old pick up a baby to love on, or a husband watch as his wife gave medical care to the homeless. I want my family to serve both at home and away. It will be happening sooner than later.

As for today, Day 7 was set aside for rest and reflection. After six long but great days, we followed the example of our creator and rested. AT THE BEACH! The weather was great, the ocean felt wonderful, and the down time has refreshed all of us. Tonight we went to a Honduran franchise called Power Chicken. Yes, i did say power!  Think Zaxby’s, but it didn’t look like Hope Church’s sanctuary and it had a pretty ridiculous logo:

So tomorrow we travel home, and for most of us, back into the thick of life. For me, I have 8 or 9 conference calls and meetings at work, soccer on three nights, and Pradero to work on. As I rode the bus back from the beach, I honestly started to think about all this stuff and dread the thought of walking into work or developing a practice plan for my girls. But the truth is that all of this stuff is part of God’s work in my life. I might not be working at an orphanage on Monday, but I will be with 12 young soccer players. Will I love on each of them just as I did with Sandra from Las Casitas?  Do I pray for their salvation and future?  That seems important. I might not be serving as a missionary, like Justin and Ashley, but I will enter a workplace on Monday that has many unsaved souls. Some only feet away from me. Do I hear the cries of their souls as loudly as I heard those babies cry out yesterday while at Nueva Esperanza? Do they see an example in my life? I don’t believe they have always.  They have seen a nice guy and co worker, but have they seen the life of Christ? That seems pretty important.

So, in short, I am flying home, but Gods work must continue. I have taken a day for rest. Now it is time to get back to work!

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”        Matthew 9:37-38

God Bless and thanks for all the prayer and support, but please don’t stop praying for this area and the ministry of Justin and Ashley.  Pray and ask God for people who have a heart to serve the people of this country.  Pray for workers and pray for the people.

Adios!  See Ya in Kentucky soon!
