One Family's attempt to live simply, while simply following. Jesus that is!
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
As a mother of two small children, I am very familiar with being interrupted. Whether my plans for the day change because of a snow day or a sick kid, or I just have to put a conversation on hold until I can make a ruling on the current sibling conflict, interruptions happen daily in my life.
I just finished reading “Choosing to SEE” by Mary Beth Chapman. This amazing woman recounts the many struggles she’s been through in life, most recently the lost of her 5 year old daughter. This is one of the many ladies I’m officially adding to my list of “People I think I could just sit down and talk to for hours.” Among all the nuggets of wisdom in her book, I love when she candidly says “There are 3 things I said I’d never do-homeschool, adopt, and speak in public. I’m getting ready to homeschool my two adopted children as I go on the road with my husband for several public speaking engagements.” This is one of the many examples of how she says her plans were changed, or interrupted by God’s.
This is a recurring theme in my spiritual walk right now, as I went to Lifeway last week to get one of my favorite authors’ new books “Interrupted: An Adventure in Relearning the Basics of Faith”. They were sold out (which didn’t coincide with my plan) but I saw another book that was available for pre-order “Life Interrupted” …written by, you guessed it, another of my favorite authors, Pricilla Shirer. ”What are you trying to tell me, Lord?” I keep asking. I keep coming back to my first memory verse of 2011, ” The Lord says: “My ways and my thoughts are not like yours. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than yours.” Isaiah 5:8-9.
So here’s to a new year. I am SO excited to see what God means by this…how He will grow me, my marriage, and my family…WHAT He’s preparing me/us for. I don’t know exactly what His plans are for me/us, but I know they are much different/better than I could ever plan for myself! I look forward to looking back on this post, maybe in a couple of weeks, or maybe in a couple of years, knowing the answer He held all along.
PS…do not do a Google Image search for “Interrupted” so you can have an awesome pic like your husband does when he posts. It seems I always inadvertently come up with inappropriate words to search! lol Happy New Year!!
